My Name Is Muffin
Hi. My name is Muffin and I’m an English Springer Spaniel. I happen to live in Scotland so, to keep the locals happy, I just call myself a Springer Spaniel.
I live in a cottage on the banks of the River Esk in Langholm in South West Scotland, with John who I take for walks and play fetch.
I’m not sure I’ve got the fetch thing right.. he throws the ball and I do all the running!
There are some great walks around here with lots of intesting countryside to explore.
There are also some great places to go swimming and chase ducks! Oops.. did I say that out loud? Chasing ducks is frowned upon around here so please keep that to yourself!
As an eight year old Springer Spaniel I’ve learned a lot about my breed and I’m going to share some of my hints, tips and secrets to help you to have fun and enjoy living, working and playing with a Springer Spaniel of your own.
I’ll be honest with you right now.. we can be challenging, we can be willful and with the right care and attention we can also be loyal and well behaved companions.
Of course, I’m “always” well behaved!
Hi Cute Spaniel, can you live in the tropical country? I wish I have one….
Hi Muffin, my name is Guinness, I’m an Australian Working Kelpie who lives in Brisbane Aus with my mum, who is Scottish, from Lanarkshire. I love going for walks too and I don’t mind a swim, as long as it’s not too deep. I can get away with an awful lot by gazing lovingly with my big dark eyes and resting my head on my mum’s lap. You should try that sometime, it would work well for you – you’re beautiful!!
Hi Guinness, I already know about the big brown eyes thing thanks. Yes, it works a treat, especially when I’m in trouble.
I like your name, I hope you weren’t called Guinness because you’re stout!
Hi Muffin
Glad you have started to read The Daily Novel. I had a dog called Larkin. His daddy was a border collie and his mummy was a spaniel. He was called Larkin because my daughter was reading Philip Larkin for her A-levels. And like many spaniels he was full of mischief, always larkin’ around. Could not be trusted off the lead in the lambing season.
He used to take me for walks every day on Hampstead Heath. He died before we moved to Dorset. He would have loved the Golden Cap walk I wrote about in my blog. And so would you.
Will try and find a picture of him for my blog later in the day.

Rose, she’s my bestest Irish Setter friend, was gonna come over and post but I told her I would cause I’m an English Springer Spaniel and so are you. I have three colors so I’m called a tricolor. I have brown and black and white. Rose has only one color. Red. Boring ole Red. Just red.
You like to chase ducks too huh? Did ya ever catch one? I caught a quail once in our back yard. One time we, my two legged companions, and Rose were at the lake and a duck flew in and landed. Me and Rose swam as fast as we could but we couldn’t catch that duck.
Have fun.
Kate, the cute one. http://www.roseandkate.blogspot.com
Hi, John & Muffin! Wow, I was so excited to get your comment to my blog in Austin, Texas. Not only do we love springer spaniels and rescue lots of animals, my mom-in-law hails from Alloa and Glasglow. I’m going to send her your link. On our wall is a linen Scottish dish towel with the wildflowers of Scotland, a gift from her Scottish friend. On my blog, please check out Bloom Day tomorrow (April 15). Along with what’s blooming in Austin, the link to May Gardens will connect you to other gardeners in Scotland. So great to know you! Linda
Wow! A two day old blog and I’m making new friends from around the world! Nice to meet everyone.
Hi Muffin,
Thanks for sharing your blog with me. I’ve read it outloud to my dog, Sophie, a yellow lab. She thinks you look like a nice dog, but she’s not too sure about your owner. Keep an eye on that one!
Good luck with your blog!
Peggy and Sophie
Nice to hear from you Muffin – lovely blog
Well Muffin, I think my Welsh Springer Spaniel Ellie would like to meet you! She’s certainly not as well behaved though – she’s always being naughty! Our two Labrador’s are much better, but can be a handful!
Anyway, nice to meet you!
Tim
